The Oregon wine industry has an economic impact of $2.7 billion on the state's economy according to a study. The wine industry is now being touted as one of the best strategic agricultural industries because of its fast growth as well as its impact on local tourism.
The study which is conducted by Full Glass Research, a market and industry research firm which specialises in wine and food was last held in 2005. It was commissioned by the Oregon Wine Boardwhich is a semi independent state agency for managing the industry marketing, research and education. The contribution of the industry has shown a rise of 93% since 2005 when it was afflicted with the worst consumer recession. The Oregon wine is poised to take on national and international markets as the high quality and its artisan style has caught the fancy of savvy wine consumers. Its preference among the core wine consumers has steadily climbed from 19% to 23% since the last study.
